Easter in Greece
26.12.2019
Holy Week in Christianity is
the week just before Easter. It is also the last week of Lent, in the West, -
Palm Sunday, Holy Wednesday (Spy Wednesday), Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday),
Good Friday (Holy Friday), and Holy Saturday - are all included. However,
Easter Day, which begins the season of Eastertide, is not. Although, traditions
observing the Easter Triduum may overlap or displace part of Holy Week or
Easter itself within that additional liturgical period.
Painting the eggs
On Holy Thursday women usually paint some eggs red. The red color represents the blood of Jesus. The legend says that when they announced His resurrection one woman didn't believe it. She said that only if her eggs turned red, she would believe. Immediately her eggs became red. Some others say that eggs symbolize new life.Fasting
In Greece for 40 days until Jesus' resurrection people fast. This means that for 40 days they can't eat meat, diary, oil, eggs, fish and olives. They can eat only vegetables, fruits, spaghetti, sea food(except for fish)
